Slow Sleep

James

Wake in the haze of dawn”s mystification
The five a.m. perplexity
Coffee the elixir of consciousness
I crawl like the human animal that I am from my futon
The joy of not waking void
Laying in wait to know what to do next
Not knowing the day
Saved from psychotic arousal
And like a meandering stream my day unfolds
Creature duties
Injected with a line or two of today”s mental map
Removed by over a half century,
by the progenitor that gave me life
I”m them now,
senior years and final acts with my progeny.
