Polish My Reference Spines

Jules

Been a drastic few days

Been a wild few months

Tell my friends I can’t meet them this week either

“Wish I could, but I have to polish my long stupid horses.”

“Yeah, I’d like to do that, but I have to sharpen my reference spines.”

Not sure what I’m on about

but they assume I’m being funny

or it’s slang for making money

Twisted grin like a wet knife

What they don’t know won’t hurt them

This is a long short timeskip summertime

I am motion and momentum

I am poised but not posed

I am paused upon a sliding, revolving spine of mood stabilizer artifice where sunset light and leafshadows mock each other across the living room floor like lovers with one hand at each other’s throats and knives behind their backs

The floor is acting extravagantly

and I

cannot

stop

pacing

and muttering recursive purple curses and

thinking all my thoughts at once
