On Being Edited

Molly Walker

Molly Walker                                                                                                                         24 lines

I remember being told

How to write my feelings.

That even in free verse

There was a pattern

You were looking for.

Like my emotions

Were supposed

To be predictable

When even to me

They come

In waves that

Crash

Uncomfortably on shores

That are sometimes,

Unfortunately,

Not my own.

A mania can splatter far past

An enjambment

And a depression

Does not care

That its synonymous

With orange

And rhymes

With nothing.
