New Patient

Tommy

The pool glistens behind glass
Which separates twenty-four hours from the distrusted newcomers.
In my mind water turns to tears,
And my innocence arises.
This is where I slip into a dream…
Here I chase the sound of the ice cream truck down the block,
I climb trees and walk freely barefoot in my backyard,
And at recess I am a ninja turtle.
Still this glass teases my dreams
Of being able to run and be free,
To walk barefoot hand in hand with my sanity.
Tomorrow”s another day, and I hope to swim.
