Final Stop

Scott Threlkeld

Outside looking in and out
One horizon then
Many horizons now
Shape shifting targets move
Moving and moving
Teasing
My bullet-train stands ill-at-ease
Phasing between two worlds unseen
Your eyes betray dismay
Shuddering my wheels in shame
Butterflies fill my chest
Ensnared by tattered veils
Standing between two worlds
Holding this portal open
Floating outside this carriage as
Apparitions imagined
Drift and whither
I shout, Is that You!
These eyes betray me, I cry
Butterflies fill my sight
Tickling my ego to flight
Releasing my soul by chance
As millions of wings depart
This carriage door weeps and sighs
Filling the sky with light
