Depression Solitary Dance

Kirstine Chadwick

Last night I went
out to dance
in vain attempt
and hopeful chance
that getting out
and seeing friends
would quell my doubt
and give me strength
Yet soon I found
within my soul
a screaming sound
and burning hole
that slowly spread
and overtook till
voices in my head
beckoned for a pill
With no relief
they torture me
in blind belief
and wasted energy
that strips defence
and leaves me bare
to carry on pretence
till I doth tear
