Constant longing for an impossible peace

Diane Hosking

Some think you’re fine all the time
Sometimes you believe it yourself
Dinner with friends
Time with your kids
Distraction – the essence of joy.
Live alone if you’re bipolar
A partner will crack
Two lives in tatters
Bipolar is the fearful apprehension
Of a mood you can never predict
For a partner the very same sentence –
Constant longing for an impossible peace.
For you the high is brief heaven
For a partner a chasm, a collapse.
One irrevocable undoing is enough
