Title: The Unknown Soldier
Author: Ginge
Date Submitted: 10/8/2007

Poem: The smell of gunpowder and flesh fills the air,
Noises overpower senses with every blast,
The direction, forward.

Mother earth cries black tears that burst into light and heat,
The blood of children young and old flows here.

Into a wall of subsonic steel we press,
Yeh though we walk through the valley of death we shall fear everything and nothing.

Time to climb the five meter mountain has come again,
Like Everest, our fate is decided,
Our breath taken from us at a moment's notice,
Without prejudice,
Without favour.

Surrounded by souls, alive and not,
I awake.

I am safe.

Till my body rests again, my mind will quiet,
Death, now only a faint whisper in the winds of my mind.

Till I rest again, and the storm begins once more....
