Title: a naive homily concerning romantic love
Author: Kate McInnes
Date Submitted: 12/30/2006

Poem: I Love You... subject, verb, object

I Love You...These words should be kept
under lock and key.
Behind shatter-proof glass.
Only to be held
with the same care,
afforded 1000 year old vellum manuscripts

I Love You...Stripped bare in the world,
a commodity easily bought or bartered,
traded quickly.
A pamphlet,
generic junkmail, viral, spam-like.
Hackneyed and empty

I Love You...Must be kept for heartfelt whispers,
hushed ardent tones.
Breathed with frightened, fragile need.
...
