Poem: Oyster shells
My acupuncturist said
Are good for mania
The Chinese believe that they
Can regulate the mood
Because they introduce
A foreign toxin into
The bloodstream.
Crushed and eaten
As a paste
Is this prescription
Far different?
We sit in front of you
Unselved. And you ask
“What is he looking at?”
“The rug.” I reply.
Looking at it for the first time myself.
It is a red kelim so strong in its construction
That I couldn’t fall upon it.
I haven’t loved this house, it’s true.
My home chosen by an ex-wife.
What could I do but populate it.
A muse once loved for nothing
Other than my presence
Required on the odd occasion
To exacerbate the mood.
Fair and unloving I ended it.
I declined History''s part....
