Title: voices

Poem: The voices inside my mind are malicious.
They chant hurtful verse
I try to ignore them, but they are relentless.
Insistent that I concede.
I wait patiently for a moment of silence.
A quiet that never comes.
I hear them because I have no choice.
I believe them as they tell me truth.
I am worthless
I deserve pain and suffering.
I must endure

Wait... can it be?
I hear a voice offer me tranquility
I plead to know the answer
To escape the pain, the noise, the rage…
I must sleep forever
So I close my eyes
And search for serenity
A time without the voices
I find the quiet, everlasting peace
When I take my last breath
I am free.
The voices cannot follow me.
